done some interessting testing today. Seems like the UDP/TCP/TLS settings is relevant after all. I installed a local syslog receiver on the VBR and have it sent to that receiver.
When set to forward events to <local IP>514 with the TCP setting:
- no syslog test message is received
- no syslog messages received after changing something in the general settings (for example)
- starting a job fires a single event (event id 110, job started)
- no event id 190 received un completion
- second message received was "VM backup job "job name" is stopped" , without an event id.
- no further messages
went ahead with setting VBR to send over UDP:
- test message received
- messages received on changing settings
- event id 110 and 190 received when starting and finishing job.
