Veeam B&R won't automatically update to this new agent, so I have to remove the old version to install the new version.

It's not accurate - Veeam B&R will automatically update all managed agents during the first rescan of protection groups. For 'Pre-installed agent' protection groups and manually managed agents you might need to follow instuctions in this KB articleVeeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.3.2.1302 Private Fix Deployment Information.
