File Shares and Object Storage • VBR integration with Unity for SMB volume backup

Hello everyone.

The current state of the customer infrastructure is this.
VBR 11.0.0.837 P20210525 (Community Edition)
Unity 5.2

What we want to do is to take backup the cifs volume that reside on the Unity.

From what i have read you can intergrade storage systems with Veeam, but on my case the v11 support only Unity OS 3.x-5.1 so i cant go with this solution. The other solution that i have think is to add the volume as File Share ( not repo Inventory -> File Shares -> Add File Share -> SMB Share) because the Unity is not supported as Nas Filler. So the first question is can i do that, it will work?

We plan to upgrade the VBR to the newest version, from what i read the storage system intergradation (snapshot) for Unity is only for VMWare Integration
and not for NAS Integration so i cant take the cifs volume backup using snapshot integration, i understand that correct? if not please give my a advice. So after the upgrade the only way to take backup the Cifs volume is by adding to the Inventory as File Share correct?
