Hi Adam,

Biggest thing is to ensure there is no repository sharing / Veeam backup infrastructure sharing occurring, as these are not supported and may result in disruptive issues.

With SMB as the repository, ensure you have a dedicated gateway server on the remote sites for each SMB share, as you definitely do not want to be trying an SMB connection across VPN; SMB is quite sensitive to network interruptions and if the connection between gateway server and SMB share drops, the Backup Copies will fail.

Overall the idea can work, but keep in mind the restrictions on repository sharing (that is, do not add the same repository + path to both backup servers at the same time), though please note that for the above reasons (and many more), SMB is typically not recommended anymore for backup storage.

Depending on what resources you have available, if you can manage your DR scenario with another storage type (e.g., Object Storage), it will be more manageable and better suited for your DR needs.
