Actually, no: in case of forward incremental "rewriting" happens after VM snapshot has already been closed, which makes dramatic difference to VM lifetime and therefore impact on production VM.

for data privacy:
we have to delete some data from time to time, if we do en endless forward incremental, we have data back to day n.
so veeam has to take care and delete old data so we get n (oldest), n+1, n+2, n+3 (current) Backups.
After n is out of scope it has to be deleted so no data of n will retain.
we just are allowed to store from n+1 to current.
if we do reverse incremental, we just say store n, n-1, n-2, n-3 but never n-4.
