Yes, for this scenario we recommend deploying a gateway server within the Azure infrastructure itself. This way, you can save money by not having to first transfer data on-premises and then upload it back to the cloud. However, as far as I remember, Azure will still charge a small fee for data transfer within its own infrastructure, but it will be significantly lower.
