In the past (before using VBR or Veeam), we simply run xcopy to copy the files. If we were using tapes, then the tape were ejected and manually sent over to the remote site.

There can be 1001 reasons why file copy over WAN causes errors and/or issues. Sometimes more complex if there are WAN accelerators involved or WAN caching capabilities involved.
Else how about HDD or SSD issues on the remote site storage ?
But we no go there ?

Currently, We use Veeam Backup Copy to copy files across WAN to remote site.
Reverse Incremental Backup with Veeam Backup Copy has an advantage....
1. You get the latest Synthetic Full backup (how often do we really need older versions) ?
2. Any "copying" error thus increment file transfer have errors (eg WAN line drops etc), the Synthetic Full job will fail. Admins will get notification from VBR almost immediately.
