1.) The ISO USB-Stick shouldn't be bigger than 100GB or it get's recognized as volume.

we confirmed the root cause: it's not about the size. It's about the USB stick identifying itself as not removable. One can check that with the following command on any Linux machine / live boot
the result must be "1" to be excluded from the disk selection.
