We would have to 4 years ago, when I posted this... but since then, technologies have evolved and matured enough to enable for shared code base between Windows and Linux while reusing most of the existing, proven code.

We did need to remove a few strong Windows dependencies we had (like some communication protocols) however this was also a great opportunity to address some long-standing customer feedback, such as reducing the number of ports required for Veeam to operate.

Thank you to everyone at Veeam for listening to the community and finally VBR is coming to Linux. This will greatly enhance security as we no longer need to worry about AD compromise leading to takeover of VBR. Not saying Linux is perfect but it's lightyears better than Windows. This also removes the licensing requirement for a Windows server. This is some of the best news you've released in ages.
